About us

When we meet again in the school – plans for crisis

We are Bambíno - international nurseries and kindergartens for children from 6 weeks to 7 years old.

History

Bambíno has been here for children since 2009; and has been accredited by the Ministry of Education since 2010.

Bambíno kindergarten was established by Lucie Pivoňková and Tomáš Trnka, because their previous work in development no longer satisfied them. So they tried to invent something meaningful, what would also be fun for others, and they established the first Bambino branch in Dejvice, Prague. They became bricklayers and painters for a while, in order to open a beautiful and modern kindergarten for the first few children in September 2009. Together with experts, they drew up their own educational programme “Big Things For Little People” and, as a result, achieved accreditation from the Ministry of Education. Once the kindergarten became full it proved the kindergarten concept prepared by them can be successful so they opened another branch in Vinohrady, Prague. But they have not stopped at the kindergarten stage because from the very beginning they wanted to continue with children’s education. Thus, Square Elementary School will continue this unique educational concept from September 2018.

Philosophy

We create a place that makes both the little and the big ones happy,
where the world of the little and the big ones is interconnected, from where the little and the big ones leave a little bigger.

We are not a kindergarten that simply “looks after” your children – we are people who consider your children ours and that is how we take care of them.

We are happy about their development, smiles and hugs. We don’t want to change the children, because every child is unique. We strive to find each one’s potential and develop it. Together we learn, play, conduct experiments, support each other and love each other but together we are looking for and setting boundaries. What’s more, while we develop children, we also look to develop ourselves.

What are parents saying about us?

Martina Zákoucká

Two years ago I was looking for a private Czech kindergarten – our son started to stammer and I wanted to avoid him becoming shy in larger groups or even stopping to speak at all. Bambíno is not outlined as a pure Czech kindergarten; they have a Czech group (which was initially attended by my son) and an English group (which was attended by my son after a year, since he wanted to be with older kids). I’m very satisfied with our decision to enrol our Vašík in Bambíno. Except for learning many things about the world around us (visits to the theatre, museum, castle, senior house, talking of traditions, other states and countries), most importantly he stopped stammering, found some friends here, and has no fear to talk with them. After a long period of stammering he built a little inner block of avoiding to talk to foreign people anyway. Due to this reason I want to give my many thanks to the teachers Terezka, Magda, and Caroline. The preschool preparation is multipurpose and comprehensive and, at the same time, funny for children. I can only recommend Bambíno to everybody; all of their teachers are good and empathic, they are helpful regarding picking up your children, and communication with management is quick. Children enjoy here not only indoor premises, but also a perfect playground behind the villa or playgrounds in the neighbourhood.

We came back to Bambíno after a year for a holiday season, since our current state kindergarten was not open during holidays and our daughter had literally enforced holidays in Bambíno through permanent questions such as when she finally might go to the “old” kindergarten, where she was never bored and where both the children and teachers were nice to her... Bambíno is a very nice place with the family atmosphere and friendly, almost mummy approach. Kindergarten is situated in a nice surrounding of an old garden suburb with a beautiful garden; the place is well accessible from the Flora underground station. Teachers are very kind, friendly, and receptive and apply individual approach to the children. They consider each child a personality. It is obvious that all of them do their work with love. Daily schedules are varied and children are definitely not bored. Moreover, the thematic programme is running during holidays. Children are moving a lot; they spend the major part of the day in the garden. The kindergarten has extended working hours until 6 p.m. and is open during the whole summer holidays. Moreover, if you pick up your child just few seconds before 6 p.m., nobody will knit his brows as in state kindergartens. I can recommend Bambíno to all those children who prefer smaller groups with the family atmosphere, who like being creative, and who like discovering new things. Moreover, as it has turned out, connecting the Czech and English groups was a great advantage – Lucie attended the Czech group, indeed, but she has understood basic English words since she was three and she is thus very easily able to take part in animation programmes within hotel resorts during our trips abroad.

From the new school year, Stellinka starts attending the first class of primary school and now I know that the efforts to choose the right kindergarten, I put in three year ago, was really worth it. I wasn’t looking just for a kindergarten near our house or just for a place for spending her time; I was looking for a kindergarten with a “spirit” and I really succeeded, when I found Bambíno. I appreciated many great things such as nice mutual relationships between teachers and children, a perfect preschool preparation and perfect meals, but I was really amazed by the details we were facing during the whole three years of our attendance, the last time, for example, honest invitations for Stellinka to come to kindergarten anytime as a school-girl just to play a bit.

OUR TEAM

We do our best when taking care of your/our children. Therefore, we carefully select our “big people”.

Our team consists of teachers – men and women, specialists (logopaedics, special pedagogics, psycho-social consultants), nurses, and since we are an international Czech-English kindergarten, naturally also native English speakers.

The whole Bambíno is handled by:

Lucie Pivoňková

director and co-owner

What animal did I want to have?
I really wanted a parrot. My parents even bought me one as a birthday present, his name was Alexander, but three months later, my cat crept into the cage and... whoops.

Lucie lived in London for 2 years, after finishing grammar school where she studied English and worked as an au-pair. In 2006, she graduated from the Master’s Program at the University in Pardubice with an emphasis on English language teaching. During her studies, she obtained a lot of experience in teaching pre-school and school-aged children. Up until 2008, she obtained management and client care experience. Since 2008, she has worked as an director of Bambíno, and newly takes care of the project of the Primary school Square.

Tomáš Trnka

co-owner

What did I like drawing most?
I liked drawing anything, until the first class. Then my teacher tore my Aurora and pulled my ears because I started with the sky. Fortunately, this teacher was replaced, so I started enjoying drawing again!

Before he started to devote his time to pre-school children, Tomáš had been working in the area of development as a sales and project manager. In 2005, he became a member of higher management in the developers’ group, where he was mainly in charge of PR and human resources. Since 2008, Tomáš has been devoted to the Bambino, newly also to the Primary school Square.

Alena Hauptmanová

special pedagogics and logopaedics

Did I like to sleep in the afternoons at kindergarten?
No. I was terribly bored and since we had to be quiet and at least pretend to be sleeping, I killed time by biting my pyjama buttons.

Alena has completed special pedagogy with specialization in learning disorders and speech therapy. For a long time, she has been engaged in intensive work with either disadvantaged or talented children. Within her leisure time activities and, especially, pedagogical advisory, she has been working on personal development both of children and adults. In Bambíno, she has been assisting in the complex development of children and in putting new educational methods into Bambíno practice. She likes theatre and music. She spends her leisure time travelling or devouring stories of any kind.

Sylvie Stretti

psychosocial consultant

What did I want to be when I was little?
For a long time, I wanted to be an astronaut or at least a fighter pilot. It was interchanging with my dream to become an archaeologist because I was keen on mummies.

For many years she has been working with children in different situations which include psycho-social fields, such as, development, crisis, family as well as therapeutic. For more than ten years she worked with children in crisis situations, she cooperated educationally for NNO, various firms and at Charles University here in Prague. At Bambíno she will participate in the creation of courses for teachers, which will help them solve difficult situations that children‘s groups can go through. She will also help with new ways of communication when children find themselves in a demanding transitional development period. Why Bambíno? Because this is a Kindergarten that is interested in the children and where children are viewed as a part of a family system. Because a child is a friend in Bambíno and because there are many nice people here.

Zuzana Sahligerová

economist and manager of educational projects

My favourite fairytale from childhood?
Disney's Cinderella. I watched it every weekend morning until the cassette was worn out. Twenty years later I received a DVD version as a birthday gift from my brother so I can watch it again and again.

Zuzka is from a family of teachers and since she was youg she has been interested in English. English is now one her main hobbies and she has tried it in various forms – from travelling, interpreting and translating through teaching up to managing a language school where she found that she enjoys working with children. After graduating from the University of Economics in Prague she moved back to Slovakia for a while. After returning to Prague she joined our team as a board assistant.

Bára Schneiderová

Project Coordinator

What did I learn in kindergarten?
In kindergarten, I learned not to eat snow. It can look beautiful and clean, though, but try to melt it down... ;)

She was born in Prague, where she also finished her study at the secondary grammar school and earned her Bachelor degree in sociology. Since 2010 she has been working in Bambíno as a temporary worker and she had a part-time job at the Safety Line for a few years. However, Bambíno has finally won and Bára has become its full-time employee as Manager of the Dejvice branch. Then she went to the maternity leave and after coming back to Bambíno she started to deal with various projects.
